You think you want a capsule wardrobe...

But you don’t…

Everyone wants a capsule wardrobe because it sounds simple.

Contained in a tiny, beautiful capsule, you’ll be getting dressed in 5 minutes like a Disney princess who puts in no effort, doesn’t have to think, and at this point, the birds might as well be helping.

But simple doesn’t come from owning less.

Simple wardrobes come from knowing what to repeat.

Online, you’ll see capsule wardrobes built on “safe” basics—usually neutral, a little boring, and missing personality. The real goal is a closet where things mix and match, you have options, and getting dressed doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Here’s how to build your version of a capsule—without limiting yourself:

1. Find your 3 go-to bottoms

The ones that always fit, always feel good, and work for your real life. These are your anchors.

2. Pair each with 2–3 tops you already love

I’m not talking about the ones that you keep ‘just because’. I mean the ones you feel amazing in and reach for on repeat.

3. Add one layer that pulls it together

A blazer, denim jacket, lightweight knit—even a belt. This is what will make your outfit feel styled, not thrown on.

4. Choose your repeat shoes

You only need 2–3 pairs that go with everything—but they have to feel like you.

If you don’t like your heel out, skip the mules.

If you need support, don’t force a strappy sandal.

The right shoes should make your outfits easier, not something you have to talk yourself into wearing.

5. Stop saving outfits

If it worked once, wear it again. If the occasion calls for more dressed up or down, change your accessories and your bag.

Your best outfits should be on repeat, not on standby.

As always,

The JH Way

P.S. With this method, getting dressed stops being something you have to think about at all. You can use it when you go shopping, too! If you want help turning your closet into something that actually feels this easy and painless, that’s exactly what I do with my clients.
